iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 may pack a more powerful battery to back up some of the high end specifications of the tablets.

According to Apple Insider, citing accessory manufacturers at a major Hong Kong electronics trade show, the iPad Mini 2 will sport a slightly bigger build to make room for a larger battery for the power requirements of the Apple tablets as well as to accommodate Retina display.

Japanese Web site Macotakara interviewed some iPad case makers who said that the next-generation iPad Mini will increase in size. The device will grow from 7.2 to 7.5 millimetres thick and gain 0.2 millimetres in width.

The alleged changes will be similar to the changes made on the iPad 3 when it first packed the Retina display. The iPad 3 gained 0.6 millimetres in size compared to the iPad 2.

The iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 release date will take place on Oct 22, according to a report from AllThingsD. The report cited insiders that Apple will hold an invitation-only event on the said date. At the event, Apple is expected to introduce the new MacBook Pro, Mac Pro desktop and the OS X Mavericks.

According to rumours, the full-fledged iPad 5 will pack features such as 64-bit A7 processor chip, M7 GPU chip, fingerprint sensor and iOS 7 similar to the iPhone 5S. Also, the 10-inch tablet may also keep some of its features such as 5-MP back camera and internal storage up to 128 GB housed in a slimmer bezel and iPad Mini-like design.

The iPad Mini 2, on the other hand, will retain to its 7.9-inch screen display, but the device will finally get a Retina screen. In addition to that, the device will also pack the 64-bit A7 processor, M7 GPU and Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Earlier this month, purported photos of the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 emerged online that hinted that the Apple tablets will be available in different colour variants and will pack the fingerprint sensor.

Alleged photos of gold and space grey iPad Mini surfaced online, which led many to think that the upcoming iPads will also be sporting these colours along with the traditional silver. What do you think of these new colours? Are you willing to lay down your silver iPad for a gold- or space grey-coloured one?
