iPad Air 2 Specifications Revealed Ahead Of October 16 Launch Event
The iPad Air, which is the fifth gen iPad from Apple, is soon going to be replaced by a successor model called the iPad Air 2. The iPad Air is powered with Apple A7 64-bit processor was released last Oct 22, 2013.
The iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 will be unveiled to the world on Oct 16. Apple will also be releasing a slew of iMacs powered with the latest OS X Yosemite during the forthcoming launch event. Here is a low down on the iPad Air 2 specifications that have surfaced quite recently through The Michael Report:
Design
According to The Michael Report, the new iPad Air 2 will be slimmer than the predecessor. The thickness of the original iPad Air is 7.5 mm. The source claims that the iPad Air 2 will be 0.5 mm slimmer than the iPad Air. The iPad Air 2 will be available in gold, black and silver colours.
In order to provide a thinner body, Apple has laminated the screen and glass on one piece. Also, the Cupertino company has got rid of the mute/vibration button and has fitted the device with recessed volume controllers. The position of the microphone has been moved to right side of the camera module. There is another microphone placed on the left side of the device.
Display
The Michael Report further adds that the fully laminated display of the iPad Air 2 has been made by TPK, GIS, Sharp, Samsung and LG. PhoneArena claims that the size of the display will be 9.7-inch that is same as the predecessor models.
Camera
The iPad Air came with a 5 MP rear camera. The newer iPad Air 2 will be featuring an 8 MP camera. The front-facing camera will be supporting 720p video calling.
Processor, RAM And Storage Options
As expected the iPad Air 2 will be powered by the upgraded Apple A8 64-bit processor built by TMSC. It will be supported by 2 GB RAM. The new processor is power efficient which means the new iPad Air 2 would last longer on a single charge. The iPad Air 2 is expected to come in storage variants like 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.
Touch ID And Apple Pay
The iPad Air 2 will be coming with Touch ID fingerprint sensor buried under the Home button. The Apple Pay mobile payment service which is available for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch is also going to come to the new iPad Air 2.
