iPhone 5 Discounts and iOS 7 New Beta Hint Imminent iPhone 6 Release Date
Apple fans were waiting with pins and needles for the iPhone 6, but more clues emerged hinting the imminent release of the much-anticipated smartphone.
Apple released another beta version of the new iOS 7. Based on previous releases, Apple released from three to seven beta versions before releasing the official version of the iOS. This was to ensure that the official iOS 7 version was free from bugs and problems.
The speed with which iOS 7 traveled through the best test process was an indication of how soon Apple will unleash the iPhone 6 to the market.
Another clue that iPhone 6 was coming pretty soon was the discounts offered to the iPhone 5. Last week, IBTimes AU reported that Walmart put iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S on sale.
Walmart's sudden move to put the previous generations of iPhone on sale made many consumers think that the iPhone 6 will be released soon. Walmart now offered iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S for $129 and $39, respectively. It seemed that the retailer was trying to exhaust all of its current stocks.
U.S. carriers also offered deals and discounts to the current iPhones. AT&T offered 50 percent price cut to all of its smartphones not just the iPhone 5. T-Mobile, on the other hand, lowered the contract price of the current iPhone 5.
T-Mobile offered a discount on the current iPhone 5. The iPhone 5's price was slashed to just $145.99 upfront on a 2-year T-Mobile contract. The iPhone 5 was available for $99 when it first launched in April, but this was raised to $149.99 in May, after the promotional period.
T-Mobile then increased the iPhone 5 price by $50. Now, T-Mobile dropped the upfront payment again to $145.99, suggesting the iPhone 6 may be on its way. However, there was a catch to this, as the carrier also increased the monthly payment by $1 a month.
Some of the rumoured features of Apple's iPhone 6 were: A7 quad core processor; iOS 7 operating system packed with new features; 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal storage; 13-megapixel rear camera; and fingerprint sensor in the home button. Apple was still mulling whether it will increase the screen size of the upcoming smartphone.
However, Apple has not released an official comment or an announcement yet.
