iPhone 5 vs Sony Xperia Z: Should you wait for new smartphone from Sony?
Sony is expected to unveil Xperia Z, its upcoming flagship smartphone, at the 2013 CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Some Android users have been monitoring rumoured Xperia Z specs on the web. But it remains to be seen whether this mobile device could also entice Apple iOS gadgeteers. For the sake of early discussion, how does the Sony Xperia Z (rumoured specs) stand in comparison to Apple iPhone 5?
Apple iPhone 5
The iPhone 5 is dubbed by Apple as "the biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone," enticing about 2 million buyers within the first 24 hours of its release. This sixth generation iPhone runs on Apple 6, which is supposedly twice as powerful as its A5 predecessor. This iPhone 5 system on chip (SoC) has 1.3 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM to make apps run smoothly for the user's ease of use. Storage varies from 16 to 64 GB.
The 4-inch Retina display shows clear images on the iPhone 5 screen. Mobile photographers also enjoy its 8-megapixel camera. Social media users are also able to update their Twitter and Facebook accounts with the iOS 6 sync operations.
Sony Xperia Z
The current Sony flagship smartphone is Xperia T, which is popularly known as James Bond's phone in the 2012 film "Skyfall." It features a 4.55-inch 720x1280 px WXGA "HD Reality Display." This translates to 323 ppi, which can strongly compete with the iPhone 5's Retina Display of 326 ppi. But with Xperia Z, Sony is posing a challenge with a rumoured 5-inch 1080p display.
Android Community reported the Sony Xperia Z is rumoured to feature a "quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, Adreno 320 graphics, and a 13-megapixel camera." Further, the newest Sony mobile phone "is expected to arrive as both a dust- and water-resistant device." Sony Entertainment gamers are expected to enjoy improved sync operations with the latest Sony mobile, too.
The Sony Xperia Z, which was earlier labeled C660X Yuga, might be more of a phablet than a dedicated smartphone. But if the rumoured specs would turn out to be accurate, the Xperia Z could potentially shake the current competition between Samsung and Apple.
If you're looking to buy a new mobile device, it might be wise to wait for the conclusion of the 2013 CES event (Jan. 8 to 11). By this time, buyers would have a lot of new information on factors to consider before making a gadget choice.
