The iPhone 5C is out and it features same experience from the iPhone 5 in a very low price. However, it has a plastic back and is less sophisticated than iPhone 5S - is it child's play or just meds for kids? Why did Apple use plastic while they know Samsung gets ridiculed for it?

Apple's New iPhone 5C

No matter what we do, it is still iPhone and features iOS 7 with all others found in iPhone 5; unfortunately, the device is not 100 per cent premium unlike with iPhone 5S.

"The iPhone 5C is made with all the incredible technology that customers have loved with the iPhone 5, but there's more too. It has an incredible new design. One that's more fun and more colourful than anything we've made before," stated by Apple's marketing chief Phil Schiller, quoted by ZDNet.

Key Selling Points of the iPhone 5C:

  • Multiple colour design: Green, Grey, Light Blue, Peach and Yellow
  • iOS 7 wallpaper matches the phone colour
  • Custom covers and cases
  • Backing is polycarbonate
  • Steel structure acting as the antennae
  • A6 processor chip
  • 4.0 inches of display similar to the iPhone 5
  • 8MP rear-shooting camera
  • Retina display

Apple's decision to feature an iPhone sold in lower price (16GB at $99, 32GB at $199) seems to be an act of desperation. Android fans are quoted as "poor people" who are unable to purchase high-end smartphones which contrary of what you'll see in store shelves such as HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z.

Plastic or polycarbonate casing is a trademark of Samsung and always got insulted about it - so why Apple is replicating the same insulting feature? Is it losing hold of the market or maybe designed for kids and poor people who cannot buy iPhone 5S? It's still insulting.

Competition of iPhone 5C

Knowing an iPhone sold in a "cheap" price will surely gain interest to a lot of people impressed with its technology. However, there are things iPhone 5C cannot give consumers such as larger screen display, storage syncing freedom, removable battery unit and the lovely microSD card support.

Featuring three among hundreds of Samsung devices in comparison with iPhone 5C in terms of technology and cost which comes in various price tags - economic, middle-class and the rich.

1. Samsung Galaxy S3

Former flagship smartphone of Samsung which is considered futureproof due to its hardware technology, not the exterior part that is truly plastic.

  • 4.8 inches Super AMOLED display screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2
  • Android 4.0 ICS with 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos CPU variants
  • 1GB or RAM with 16/32/64GB internal storage and up 64GB of microSD card slot
  • 8MP camera with HD video recording and 1.9MP front-facing shooter.

Galaxy S3 is sold as low as "FREE" to some network carriers in the United States even though you'll have to pay for the activation charge and the line itself - who doesn't?

Bragging Rights: Yes! Galaxy S3 is old but watch out for the Android 4.3 JB and Android 4.4 KitKat updates which will rejuvenate the device - younger and fairer again. Isn't that iPhone 5C, the plastic version? I think we are both using plastic this time!

Samsung Galaxy 6.3 Mega

Welcome to the mid-range smartphone with an insanely huge screen for a reasonable price.

  • 6.3 inches SC-LCD display screen with 720 x 1280 resolution
  • 8MP camera with HDR, HD recording and 1.9MP front-facing shooter
  • Dual-core Snapdragon 400
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 1.5GB of RAM, 8/16GB internal storage and up to 64GB microSD card support

AT&T is selling the device for $149.99 with 2-year contract and you are paying for that display screen.

Bragging Rights: Sure thing! Plastic, dual-core CPU and LCD screen only? Do not forget how big everything looks like on its display. iPhone 5C with Retina display won't make the 4.0 inch display grow larger. For people who have bigger hands or long fingers, Galaxy Mega 6.3 can make you fit on its keys.

Samsung Galaxy S Duos

For the same screen size category and mid-range smartphone, Galaxy S Duos has one special asset - dual SIM standby.

  • 4.0 inches of TFT screen with 480 x 800 resolution
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with dual-SIM standby
  • Single-core Qualcomm processor
  • 768MB of Am with 4GB internal storage and up to 32GB of microSD card support
  • 5MP rear camera and VGA front-facing shooter

Bragging Rights: Somehow - you still have the Galaxy S line features to speak of. In this section iPhone 5C will kick the Galaxy S Duos in almost every way except for the dual-SIM standby. For some users, this is very important!

iOS Environment Ups and Downs

Good Aspects

Frustrating

Very secured apps compared with Android - no viruses here

Non-removable battery which may leak if you're unlucky

Compatible upgrades - iPhones and iPads are only made by Apple

You need a computer to sync files; poor people cannot buy computers

Premium materials - oops iPhone 5C isn't pure

Apps such as Torrent and TubeMate are not found in iOS; Apple hates poor people doing piracy

Impressive clouding system - you can play with your iOS devices anywhere

No microSD card slot; maybe you'll be labelled cheap if you have any

iOS status symbol - you are rich if iPhone and iPad are with you

Customisable ROM; even rich Apple users cannot change the ROM

Incomparable operating system - Android is still slow in certain aspects

Pay for yearly software warranty; My God, Android is free!

Exclusive iOS apps - Android doesn't have its own video chat app

Needs Google services to survive? Can't make your own YouTube?
