Despite the PS4 and Xbox One being around many Black Friday and holiday shoppers would still hunt for handheld gaming device. Thanks to Logitech the iPhone 5S is now a full-pledged Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita nemesis.

Actually, iOS and Android gadgets have long neutralised the portable handhelds from Sony and Nintendo. In effect, Logitech's PowerShell Controller, designed for the iOS 7 environment, will drive the final nail in the coffin.

Gaming with touch keys is great but according to CNET, the snap on PowerShell further optimises the iOS gaming experience. "Games in the App Store are already getting quite advanced, but when it comes to classic-style games, having real buttons would be a big help," said the tech site on its initial review of the $100 iPhone 5S gaming companion.

PowerShell is a bit pricey but iOS gamers can definitely take a serious look on its incredible promises and perhaps retire permanently their ageing PSPs. And here are the power features that likely will convince gamers-on-the-go to finally treat the iPhone 5S a gaming machine that really rocks:

Compatible with iPhone 5 and iPod Touch too

By design, the PowerShell works with at least three iOS devices that run on iOS 7, namely the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5 and the fifth iPod Touch build. It was intriguing that the iPhone 5C was left out from the support section, CNET said, but the body-design and control button configuration of the plastic-wrapped iPhone are likely to blame for the incompatibility.

Loads of exciting game titles to play with

While the PowerShell is optimised for all the game titles found on Apple's online store, Apple Insider picked out the following as the most exciting titles so far: Bastion, Fast & Furious 6: The Game, MetalStorm Aces, Galaxy On Fire 2 HD and Nitro. The list is expected to grow in no time.

And there's a bonus - availability is not limited on Apple's official channel as the existing games and upcoming will retail widely.

Familiar control buttons lay-out

Moving from Vita or 3DS to iPhone 5S housed in PowerShell is no pain at all as Logitech made sure the configuration will be closely similar to the mainstream models - the Xbox and PS4 controllers including.

All the popular features - the analogue d-pad, shoulder triggers and button cluster - are located in such a way that users will intuitively adapt to their functions and placements. And with the screen freed up from touch manipulation, gamers will have full view of the 4-inch 5S display profile, hardly missing any action as seen on the viewer.

Smart body design

Sexy, comfortable and functional - these obviously are the main consideration of Logitech designers in coming up with the PowerShell. The accessory is slim enough to complement the sleek build of iPhone 5S, its body textured for strain-free marathon gaming and ergonomically engineered to access gaming and phone functions with ease.

Built-in battery

Gaming is a power hog and to address this, Logitech installed a 1500mAh battery with the PowerShell. Working with the 5S battery, the energy reservoir is boosted by almost 100 per cent and the option to connect to a power outlet charges the two devices simultaneously.

PowerShell is scheduled for delivery beginning this December 2013 although iPhone 5S owners can start placing orders by heading out to Apple Store, Best Buy and Logitech's official site.
