iPhone 5s vs Samsung Galaxy S5: Which 5 Should You Get?
Will it be a 5s or an S5? Apple and Samsung's rivalry continues as both manufacturers release handsets regularly. The latest from Apple is the iPhone 5s, whereas Samsung is gearing up for the Samsung Galaxy S5. It may be pure coincidence that both companies named their handsets similarly or that Samsung's handset is named opposite of Apple, but the competition is there definitely. Which one will it be - the 5s or the S5?
iPhone 5s
The iPhone 5S offers better camera, a fingerprint sensor and a top notch CPU plus a motion-tracking chip. Apple also includes iWork app suite free of charge. With the latest iOS7 on the device, the handset comes with some excellent features like a control center similar to Android and AirDrop.
The handset comes in additional variants like space gray and gold. The iPhone 5s has a lighter, thinner and aluminium build. Apple focuses on presenting a sleeker and more high-end appeal. The device has a smaller screen at 4 inches compared to its many Android competitors.
As for configurations, Apple is not offering a 128 GB variant this year. Choices include 16, 32 and 64 GB. Starting prices are at $199, $299 and $399, respectively. However, prices may be subjective depending on the user's chosen carrier.
All models run with an A7 processor. The device measures 4.87 inches (123.8 mm) by 2.31 inches (58.6 mm). It weighs around 112 g. The screen features Retina display, 4-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display, 1,136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi and 800:1 contrast ratio (typical).
One of the most prominent and controversial feature of the phone is the Touch ID sensor. The Touch ID is a fingerprint senor which allows people to access their handsets with pass keys or passwords. Just pressing the device with the user's finger can unlock it. There are still issues with the Touch ID, but it does relieve people of typing passwords and remembering them.
Samsung Galaxy S5
Now that Apple finally released their iPhone 5s, analysts think that Samsung is speeding up its production and work to make sure the Samsung Galaxy S5 arrives just as soon. Some are wondering whether Samsung will also include fingerprint sensor to rival iPhone 5s, but analysts think otherwise.
According to Forbes, Samsung should think more about their lifestyle and ecosystem strategy. From the reports and rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S5 sounds to be an extremely product-centered device. Samsung should be able to differentiate between product and device.
Product refers to hardware with software included. Device, on other hand, combines software, hardware, services and optimal usage assurance. There are only a few companies that can combine such - so far, it has been the ticket of smartphone market leaders.
Other reported features include in-house 64-bit CPU, Android 4.4 KitKat and metal body including enhanced camera optics.
