iPhone 5s Will Have Twice as Much Retina Display Resolution than Before?
The new iPhone 5s model will have twice as much resolution of its Retina display than ever with 1.5 million pixels compared to the current iPhone 5 according to latest report.
A new report claims that iPhone 5s will have 1.5 million pixels which is twice as much resolution of the current Retina display on iPhone 5. Weiphone via Unwired claimed that the next-generation Retina display will be included on the upcoming iPhone 5s and incorporated in the same display screen which is 4.0 inches used in iPhone 5.
Enhanced Retina Display
iPhone 5 has a pixel count of 730,000 with display resolution of 1136 x 640 - that's 326 pixels per inch on a 4.0-inch display.
"According to sources, iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 to have a more narrow screen frame, is now preparing, will ship in September. In addition, the product also has a screen 1.5 million pixels, compared to nearly 730,000 iPhone 5 the number of pixels, if not the screen size continues to increase, the resolution will be greatly," quoted by Macrumors.com
HTC One has a 1080p resolution screen and equivalent to the full high definition television screens housed into 4.7-inches of space. The device has more than 2 million pixels working at a substantially higher density compared to iPhone 5.
Achievable or Not?
The report did not include how Apple would achieve such feat on doubling the pixels for the iPhone 5s under the same screen size.
One method would be increasing the pixel density by a factor of 1.5 in each dimension, yielding 1704 x 960 display resolution which has 1.6 million pixels at a density of approximately 489 ppi. Increasing the pixel number by twice as much than the previous generation may cause drawbacks to developers on tweaking their apps just to fit on the upcoming shift again.
Another angle seen is the contradicting rumours about narrowing the bezel and maintaining screen size. Apple has to maintain the overall body and screen design before implementing significant changes especially to the display screen itself.
Regardless of reports coming from Weiphone's forums, Apple needs to greatly improve the display resolution of the upcoming iPhone to match Samsung's Galaxy S4 1920 x 1080 display at 441 ppi. Large screen, higher resolution and better screen quality is something Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG are focusing on developing new devices running Android OS.
