iPhone 6 Designed To Be 'Indestructible' Smartphone, Suggest New Patents
iPhone 6 may be a sturdier smartphone because of the strong Liquidmetal covering it.
According to the latest patents picked up by Patently Apple, iPhone 6 may sport an armor-like casing made out of new covering material called Liquidmetal. This cover makes the Apple's smartphone an indestructible device.
One of the most common complaints among Apple users is the fragility of the company's devices. The glass covering of iPhones breaks easily. Thus, accidental destruction of iPhones may no longer happen in the future.
Liquidmetal is reportedly made out of glassy alloy or composite screen panel material that is formed by "using a deeply undercooled glass forming liquid. This particular embodiment is mostly concentrated on the iPhone's backside."
According to the report, Apple is already using this material. The metallic cover of the current iPhone 5S is laced with Liquidmetal and the aluminium band that wraps around the handset's edges that overlap under the phone's thin bezels. Patently Apple also cited that some of its accessories make use of this technology. For example, the Smart cover that Apple sells on the original iPad and iPad Mini is also embedded with Liquidmetal.
Liquidmetal makes most of the exterior covering that will protect the large screen iPhone 6 and its inner components. Liquidmetal greatly complements the rumored Sapphire glass on the smartphone's screen display.
Sapphire glass was first used as the covering for iPhone 5S' TouchID fingerprint sensor. In the iPhone 6, Sapphire glass will be used in iPhone's display panel, camera lens and the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Meanwhile, Liquidmetal on the iPhone 6 is made through manufacturing techniques invented by Apple engineers. According to a separate patent, Apple engineers made use of "customized injection mold."
Most analysts agreed that iPhone 6 will pack a larger screen although Apple is hesitant in increasing the size of its screen displays for the iOS developers. Moreover, the next Apple flagship smartphone may keep the iPhone 5S' 64-bit A7 processor, M7 graphics chip and the fingerprint sensor.
However, Apple has not revealed the iPhone 6 release date although recent rumors say it will be second half of 2014, probably in June. June is the original release date of Apple's iPhone.
