The iPhone 6 Plus is the largest ever Apple iPhone. It is going to release on Sept 19. It will battle against some of the leading Android smartphones like the Galaxy Note 4, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z3. However, it has several competitors from Chinese brands too. One of the most popular China branded smartphone is the Xiaomi Mi4 that came out in August 2014. Xiaomi is branded as the 'Apple of China.'

We have pitted the first ever phablet from Apple with the Xiaomi Mi4 to see whether the handset that is dubbed as iPhone killer is of any competition to the iPhone 6 Plus:

Design

The iPhone 6 Plus measures 158.1 x 77.8 mmand weighs only 172g. Its ultra slim metallic body boasts a thickness of 7.1mm. The premium looking phablet is available in colour choices of silver, gold and gray.

Weighing 149g, the Xiaomi Mi4 is slightly smaller as it measures 139.2 x 68.5 mm. With a measurement of 8.9mm, it is thicker than the iPhone 6 Plus. The Mi4 does not feature a polycarbonate body like the Mi3, but comes with a stainless steel band on its edges. It is available in two colours, white and black.

Display

The iPhone 6 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display that supports a full HD resolution along with 401ppi pixel density. On the other side, the Xiaomi Mi4 comes with a smaller 5.0-inch IPS LCD screen with support for full HD resolution. However, it boasts a higher pixel count of 441ppi.

Processor, RAM and Storage

The iPhone 6 Plus features the new A8 processor. It can produce a processing speed of 1.4 GHz. The dual-core 64-bit processor from Apple is supported by PowerVR GX6650 GPU and 2 GB RAM. The phablet is performs quite smoothly and users will enjoy playing games with rich graphics quite seamlessly on the new phablet.

The M8 motion co-processor is an additional processor that is designed to fetch data from different sensors embedded inside the iPhone 6 Plus and provide it to the main processor. There is no external storage support available on the handset. However, it is available in inbuilt storage variants like 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.

The Xiaomi Mi4 is powered by the Snapdragon 801 chipset that features a Krait 400 quad-core processor that delivers a clocking speed of 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 330 graphics. It is housed with 3GB RAM. Even the Xiaomi Mi4 does feature an external microSD card slot. It is available in inbuilt storage variants like 16 GB and 64 GB.

Camera

The iPhone 6 Plus is being praised for its 8MP iSight camera that is decked with features like OIS, dual-tone flash, phase detection and full HD video recording at 60fps. The 1.2MP front-facing camera is designed for shooting selfies. It is blessed with features like burst and HDR modes. It can shoot videos of 720p.

The Xiaomi Mi4 has a 13MP shooter on its rear side and is equipped with features like dual-LED flash and autofocus. It even supports 2,160p video shooting at 30fps The 8MP camera seated above the display can shoot full HD videos at 30fps.

Distinctive Software and Hardware Features

Running on the most recent iOS 8, the iPhone 6 Plus is equipped with plenty of new software features like QuickType keyboard, landscape mode, Health apps and Handoff. The Xiaomi Mi4 features a Android v4.4.3 KitKat and it is overlaid with MIUI 5.0 user interface. Like the iOS, every app can be found on the homscreen.

Apple has added some new features on the iPhone 6 Plus that cannot be seen in the iPhones that came out in the previous years. Faster browsing and downloads through Cat. 4 LTE modem, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and NFC are the new features on iPhone 6 Plus. It is also equipped with fingerprint sensor and couple of health and fitness apps.

There are not many distinctive features as such on the Xiaomi Mi4. It does not feature NFC. However, it comes with Cat. 4 LTE connectivity, USB OTG and

Battery

The 1,810 mAh battery of the iPhone 6 Plus is non-removable. It produces a 3G talk time of 14 hours and can stay for 250 hours on standby on 3G.

The Xiaomi Mi4 also comes with a larger non-removable battery of 3,080 mAh battery. On 3G, it can deliver a talk time of 16 hours and a standby time of 280 hours.

Price

The iPhone 6 Plus can be yours through contract price of $299, $399, and $499 for 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants, respectively. Without contract, the 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants can be purchased for $749, $849 and $949, respectively.

The 16 GB edition of Xiaomi Mi4 is priced at $439 and the 64 GB version can be purchased for $499.
