iPhone 6 Release Date Soon as Retailers Slash iPhone 5S, 5C Prices Before Christmas
Retailers are bringing down the prices of iPhone 5S and 5C signalling the imminent release date of iPhone 6.
Walmart, Best Buy and MacMall slashed the price of Apple's smartphones as an early Christmas treat. Walmart will begin its holiday sale on Friday and will offer iPhone 5C for $27 with the usual two-year contract. The smartphone's original price is $99. However, retailers have been selling the handset at a discounted price since its release last Sept.
Walmart initially sold the iPhone 5C for $79, but back in Oct, the company dropped the price on the iPhone 5c to just $45. During Black Friday Sale, Walmart offered an even better deal, providing a $75 gift card along with an iPhone 5C purchased for $45.
Walmart will also offer a discount to the iPhone 5S to $127 from its original price of $199. Moreover, buyers can get a $50 gift card with the purchase of a $299 16 GB original iPad mini, which they can use in purchasing the device. Walmart's sale will begin on Friday, Dec 13 at 8 AM and last until Dec 24.
Best Buy, on the other hand, is offering a $75 discount on the iPhone 5S bringing its price to $124 with 24-month lock-in period. Meanwhile, MacMall is offering the 16 GB iPhone 5S for $120 and the 16 GB iPhone 5C for $20.
Prices of devices usually go down during the holidays. However, Apple's SRP is rigidly controlled by Apple but consumers saw the aggressive decrease in the price of Apple smartphones, especially the iPhone 5C since its release.
The unusual decrease in iPhone prices hint the coming iPhone 6 release date, which is speculated to happen early next year. iPhone 6 is rumoured to pack a larger screen display with a size between 4.8 to 6 inches. The next iPhone may retain some of iPhone 5S' features such as the 64-bit A7 processor, M7 graphics chip and the fingerprint sensor. However, new patents showed that iPhone 6 may include curved screen display and a refocusable light camera.
