Samsung and Apple's rivalry continue to 2014 as both companies make waves for their upcoming smartphones. Apple will be releasing their iPhone 6 while Samsung will be launching their Samsung Galaxy S5. Both handsets were reported to feature curved and flexible displays along with 64-bit processors. Which curved flagship should people wait for?

Apple's iPhone 6

According to NASDAQ, Apple may give the iPhone 6 a screen expansion to show off the Retina Display technology better. There are also prototypes sighted in 4.7 and 5.5 inches. They may be the high end and mid-range options for the next iPhone 6.

As mentioned, the release of Samsung's Galaxy Round and LG's Flex has inspired a new wave of handsets with curved screens. It seems Apple's iPhone 6 will not be far from that. The next iPhone may also have a wrap-around design for better grip and more comfortable use.

Other reported features for the iPhone 6 include:

  • 3D Gesture controls - Apple just acquired the company PrimeSense. They are the same people behind the Kinect technology in Microsoft's Xbox One. With its 3D technology, Apple may include 3D gesture conrols and 3D imaging capacities to their next phone.
  • Plenoptic Camera - this may also be possibility because of PrimeSense. People may be able to adjust the focial point of their photos even after the image has been taken.
  • A8 Processor - Apple's iPhone 5 series made waves because of the 64-bit A7 processor. It gave impressive benchmark results so an improved version on the iPhone 6 is a possibility.

The new iPhone 6 will also reportedly feature a better TouchID sensor and Siri.

Samsung Galaxy S5

While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is slated for an April 2014 release, there are reports about its features already. Reports have already highlighted the 62-bit Exynos 6 as a possible processor for the S5. There are also reports confirming working with the Korean tech giant for the chipset. This is in line with competing against Apple's 64-bit A7 chip which received positive reviews.

There are reports saying that Samsung may feature a similar function to TouchID found on Apple's iPhone 5s. Likewise, Samsung will also be releasing two versions of the device: one top tier and one midrange. Other reported features include:

  • 20 MP camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Aluminum casing
  • Curved display
  • 2560 x 1440 Panel

As Samsung's processor and chip options remains for clarification, people particular about their handset chipset may have a safer bet with Apple's iPhone 6. Apple already managed the 64-bit on their iPhone 5 so it will be possible to see similar and improved performance on the next flagship. Nonetheless, people cannot also deny Samsung's success with the S4 so the S5 is also worth the consideration. Both phones are on even footing when it comes to curved and flexible displays. People will have to wait for the actual release to check which company best delivered the curved standard.
