iPhone: Helpful Tips and Tricks to Enhance the Phone Performance
Let's say you own an iPhone: Do you feel something that could have been better? Does it ring a bell?
From the time iPhone made its presence, the key aspect that iPhone users vouch for got to be the following: 'A stable, sleek and smooth user experience'. Although Apple's new iOS 7.1 gives huge performance improvements, we as users can still make the Smartphone experience even better without burning a hole in the pocket.
The following set of tips and tricks has been compiled by The Huffington Post.
1. Declutter:
At times, we are our own enemies. The exorbitant space occupied by our very own personal data, that was so important at one point but not needed any more - manage to escape our eyes. So take a moment and clear out the clutter that is no longer in need. According to Huffington Post, "To check your usage, go to Settings, then General, then scroll down and click Usage.
It might take a minute to load, but you'll be able to see which apps are taking up the most space on your iPhone. Then, remove what you can. That weird game you never play might actually be taking up a ton of space on your phone. Chuck it!"
2. Clear the Browser's Cache Regularly:
Make it a habit to clear your iPhone's browser's history, cookies and other temporary data - this could certainly make a difference on performance. End of the day, Smartphones are just like computers, they need fine tuning periodically. "To do this, go to Settings, select your browser app, then you'll see 'Clear History' and 'Clear Cookies and Data.'"
If the displayed letters are blue, that means you can clear the data. But If they're grey, that means you've just recently cleared the data, so no further action required.
3. Delete Unwanted Old Text Messages:
Believe it or not, text messages take up a lot of space on your iPhones, especially those 'multimedia' messages. Even though iMessage history is stored in the cloud, heavy SMS users can definitely clear some space by deleting old conversations that are no longer needed.
As per BGR, "Simply open a chat, and then tap and hold on a sent message until you see the "More" option pop up. Then choose the messages you want to delete or tap 'Delete all.'"
4. Kill the Auto App Updates Service:
Although auto updates are an important feature, they deplete the battery and in turn slow down the performance. So the correct way is to disable the auto update option and update manually when you are plugged in via wi-fi or any other connection.
"To turn off auto app updates, go to Settings, then scroll down and click iTunes & App Store. There, push all of the buttons to the left to turn off automatic downloads", advises Huffington Post.
5. Switch Off The Location Services:
With the recent news on privacy breaches, it is only advisable to turn off your location service. Other than privacy, opting out of this option will enhance speed and battery life, according to Huffington Post. "A lot of apps use location services to determine your current location to serve you better, but it is generally not necessary. Go to Settings, then Privacy, then Location Services. From there, you can choose to turn it off completely or you can choose to turn it off only for certain apps.
If you are a regular user of Maps, then you need to specify your location. But for apps like Facebook, location service is not necessary." The right way to use this service, is only when there is a need.
