In October 23, 2001, Apple introduced the first and original iPod to media and critics who were quite skeptical of the device.

However, consumers embraced the new gadget and since then, the device changed the way people listen to music.

The first iPod looked like the current iPod classic but it has a monochrome LCD, Click Wheel and a 5GB hard drive. Critics said that the first iPod was overpriced with a $399 price tag. That time, MP3 players dominated the scene, which can only store a few songs.

One of the assets of the iPod was the FireWire feature that allows fast transfer of data files. However, FireWire is only available to Mac users leaving the large Windows market. Despite that flaw, the iPod performed well in the market.

Because of the popularity of the product, Apple took the opportunity and improved the device by increasing the storage, putting touch-based click wheel and a Dock connector - which is still present in new versions of iPod.

Then came the iPod mini and shuffle, which at one point became the best-selling iPod models. Despite the immense popularity, Apple killed the iPod mini and introduced the iPod nano and the time of flash Ram-based music players, which proved to be more successful than its predecessor.

In 2007, Apple ex-chief the late Steve Jobs introduced the iPod touch, which offered some of the features of iPhone such as music and video player, mobile browser and iTunes Store. The release of the iOS has also been an advantage to the iPod.

There are a lot of things that you can do in your iPod. Aside from being a new music platform, it also allowed TV shows and movies to be played in the device, set up appointments and reminders and manage a contacts list.

The iPod transformed the way people listen to music and how music is delivered. The music industry saw new selling platform with the iTunes Store through its cheap song downloads.

Apple's meticulous design and perseverance in improving their products yield to a product that is not only a cool music player but is a cultural phenomenon.

Over the years, the iPod underwent various transformations and redesigns. Moreover, the improvement of the product such as the scroll wheel and the white earbuds that define the iPod will be always in the hearts of the consumers.
