Japanese Firm Thanko Creates Thumb Extension For Large Devices Like iPhone 6 Plus
The newly released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were declared by DxOMark as camera kings after the two flagship smartphones from Cupertino-based Apple got scores of 82, dethroning the Sony Xperia 23.
While the two gadgets may rule not only in terms of its photoshooting ability but also sales, some buyers of the two devices are struggling with their units because of its size. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display.
People with small hands like Asians may struggle with the iPhone 6 Plus screen.
However, a Japanese gadget maker created a solution for people with petite fingers. The company, Thanko, has come up with Yubi Nobiiru, a thumb-shaped stylus that adds 15 millimetres to the length of the user's thumb.
So as not to stand out like a sore thumb, Yubi Nobiiru is flesh-coloured. It weighs 11 grammes and costs £8.31.
Thanko said the thumb-extender works on different large-screen models besides the iPhone 6 Plus. It also could be used on the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 4 and the 5.2-inch Xperia Z3.
"This wasn't specifically designed for the new iPhone but for overall smartphones because screen sizes are getting larger and difficult to handle," Thanko told The Wall Street Journal.
Like the thumb that the devices expands, Thanko's market appears to also be vast because more smartphone users are now preferring devices with larger screens in the 5- to 7-inch range. In 2013, shipment of such large-screen phones overtook shipments for laptops and tablets in Asia for the first time, said IDC analysts.
Aware that iPhone users are used to smaller displays, the firm included a reachability feature in its two latest models. It allows users to lower the app grid on the screen so that the icons are easier to reach.
Both the reachability feature and the Yubi Nobiiru will surely get the thumbs up from grateful buyers of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, especially those with short fingers.
