Johnny Depp on His MTV Generation Award and ‘Dark Shadows’ Film
Johnny Depp was the honorary recipient of the "MTV Generation Award" at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles last Sunday. The "Dark Shadows" actor was introduced by Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry to receive the award for his contributions to the film industry and for entertaining generations throughout his career.
"This is the get of the business award. Based on watching all of those clips there is clearly something wrong with me," Johnny joked after watching a montage of his films at the ceremony.
The "MTV Generation Award" is the MTV Movie Awards' highest honor with its past recipients including celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey. During the awards night, Johnny Depp also surprised the star studded audience by strapping on his guitar and joining The Black Keys for a no-holds-barred rendition of the rock duo's "Gold On the Ceiling."
Meanwhile, "Twilight" star, Robert Pattinson, should move over for there is a new vampire in town and he is not stepping down. Johnny Depp portrayed a vampire in his latest film, "Dark Shadows" and this is the eighth collaborating film of the 48-year old actor with his longtime friend and director, Tim Burton,
"I think it was during Sweeney Todd where I just blurted out in mid conversation, 'God, we should do a vampire movie together where you actually have a vampire that looks like a vampire,'" Johnny revealed to Movie Line.
When asked about what other kind of film roles he would want to take on in the future, Johnny revealed that there are more boxes on his checklist to be ticked. "This was a big one for me," Depp shared, referring to his portrayal of the vampire Barnabas Collins in the "Dark Shadows."
Depp envisioned his undead character to be donning ghostly make-up and fangs. The actor said he has always been fascinated by monsters and the erotic nature of bloodsuckers with their darkness, mystery and intrigue.
