Julia Roberts' Mom Passed Away At 80 From Lung Cancer
Julia Roberts’ mom, and Emma Roberts’ grandmother, passed away from lung cancer. Betty Lou Bredemus was 80.
Just barely a year after “Pretty Woman” star’s half-sister Nancy Motes committed suicide came the tragic news that Julia’s mom died from her battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her three remaining children, Eric Roberts, Lisa Gillan and Julia. Nancy passed away on Feb. 20, 2014 at the age of 37. Being a devout Catholic, Julia’s mom spent her final days at a Catholic healthcare institution, St. John Health Center in Santa Monica, where she passed. Before she stayed at the hospital, however, she was under Julia’s care, living with the actress along with her husband Daniel Moder and their children.
Betty Lou is said to be battling her lung cancer since November 2013, when a “cancerous tumour” was discovered in her lung while she was undergoing a routine MRI scan. The news only broke out on February, after her daughter Nancy died. Since then, Julia can be seen spending time with her mom as much as possible. They are often snapped going to church together.
Julia, known for her top grossing films such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Runaway Bride,” “Pretty Woman,” “Eat, Pray, Love,” “Erin Brockovich,” and more others, has not given an official statement yet. However, it could be remembered how heartbroken the seasonod actress and the rest of her family were when Nancy passed away.
Julia later on shared to The Wall Street Journal how the family dealt with her sibling’s death. "You don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world,” she said. "But [as with] any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family… It's so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family,” the Oscar-winning actress added.
Meanwhile, Mail Online UK released some photos showing how friends comforted and help the actress as she dealt with this difficult time. Friends also went to Julia’s mother's home in West Los Angeles, California to help her get everything in order. Julia can be seen very composed as she goes through her mother’s house.
