Rapper Kanye West delivered a powerful speech at Oxford University on Monday and his words were blogged live by the students. The 37-year-old spoke at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History at a function hosted by the Oxford Guild Business Society. The “Yeezus” rapper delivered “Kanyeisms” that were shared by his 300 plus audience on Twitter by the use of various hashtags, including #YeezOx, #KanyeBelieveIt, #KanyeInOxford and #YesWeKanye. Though the rapper spoke for more than an hour but below are some of the most awe-inspiring quotes from him.
Kanye said that people think he has a “bad reputation” but according to him, he has “got the best reputation in the building,” according to Versa News.
The rapper said his goal is to “do fine art” and then he “would have become Picasso.” The rapper went to an art school with a scholarship when he was just 5-years-old, said the website.
The husband to very stylish reality star Kim Kardashian claims that clothing should be like food and “there should never be a U.S. $5000 sweater.” He also added that a U.S. $5000 car is fine to have as it is a luxury, according to the website.
“Steve Jobs is my favourite person ever,” said the rapper adding that the Apple head lacked collaboration. “Ideas are free and you can’t be selfish with them.”
The rapper also talked about his daughter North West and how she loves playing with toys. He reminisced about a time when one of his friends bought three wolves (soft-toys) for his daughter to play with. “...and when my daughter saw these wolves, I’ve never seen her happier than this moment. And that level of happiness seems to be the thing that we’re fighting for every day, especially in America.”
Kanye also bragged about how he can call “Elon Musk or Obama out of the blue” adding that – Obama calls him on his “home phone” and with that he [Kanye] has a “responsibility to serve” people.
The rapper also talked about racism and said that the current generation is “far less racist.” But at the same time he also talked about how “white people listen to rap, say “n-gger” in the privacy of their own home.” Kanye then told his young audience that President Obama and Beyonce are “great” but “that’s past.”
