Kate Middleton's cruise ship is now a TV celebrity; Royal Princess to appear in six-part documentary
The Royal Princess has 1,800 cabins and is manned by some 1,400 crew.
The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has a cruise ship named after her called the “Royal Princess.” Just like its famous parent, it will soon be a star on its own documentary show.
The Princess Cruises ship will the centrepiece of a new TV documentary series. The Royal Princess was christened by the Duchess of Cambridge herself in 2013 at Southampton. The upcoming documentary will be divided into six parts. After being filmed, it will be broadcasted on ITV in early 2017, the Mirror shares.
The documentary will feature the day to day activities of the crew, which is composed of 1,400 people, running the 114,000-ton ship. They will be servicing 1,800 cabins and preparing 20,000 meals in one day. It will also showcase the daily lives of the passengers aboard the ship.
It will be created by one of UK’s top documentary makers Wild Pictures. The show will be voiced by Hugh Bonneville, more popularly known for his portrayal of Robert Crawley in Downtown Abbey, Cruise Critic reports.
The Royal Princess features amenities that make it stand out from the other ships. It features a top deck and a glass bottomed walkway where guests can walk and view the water below their feet. The walkway extends 28 ft. beyond the Royal Princess’ edge.
This gives a more exhilarating view of the ocean and a more adventurous vibe for the guests. Afternoon tea will also be a delight when spent in the Royal Princess as it features the largest pastry shop that can be found at sea. Visitors staying in staterooms are treated like VIPs and are provided with a superb view of the ocean, as they all have balconies attached to their rooms.
The Royal Princess boasts of a 280-seater entertainment facility. The facility has a studio along with a café space dedicated to musical performances, events and television broadcasts.
The ship named after the Duchess of Cambridge herself also features expensive rooms. The most expensive they offer is called “The Owner’s Suite,” which can be availed with the Maiden Mediterranean Voyage that lasts for 12 nights.
It costs £5,165 ($8,900/US$6,755) per person. Hence renting the cabin for two will cost £10,330, the Daily Mail notes.
Although the feature is seen to be a success to promote cruise holidays, some of the company’s competing brands think otherwise. They fear that it will brand and reinforce stereotypes to cruise holidays and these may put off people from taking cruises altogether.
