Katy Perry's marriage ended with just one text message. The American songstress, who usually keeps mum about her personal life, revealed that Russell Brand told her he was divorcing her by sending a text.

The 28-year-old pop star still refused to disclose why her marriage to the English comedian didn't work out, but revealed the tactless way he ended their relationship.

"He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him," she told U.S. Vogue magazine. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

They were married in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India. While many people doubt their relationship would even reach marriage when they began dating a year ago, it was still a surprise when they announced that they were divorcing just after 14 months.

Katy said that she used to find Russell funny, but then he started making her the subject of his jokes.

"Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn't know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So. Hysterical to a point."

Still, the "Part of Me" singer knows that it takes two to tango in a marriage, and she also had a fault in bringing it down.

"I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie," she said, referring to the documentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me," which covers her life before, during, and after her marriage.

"That wasn't edited to leave footage out - there wasn't any footage of him."

Part of why they didn't last was Russell's inability to handle a strong woman like her, she told the magazine.

"He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day.

"I let go and I was like: This isn't because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that."

And move on she had. She has been linked to a few men since then, more recently to fellow singer John Mayer, which unfortunately is now over.

When asked if her relationship with the "Born and Raised" singer was a classic "revenge" relationship, Katy replied, "No, not at all. No, I was madly in love with him. I am still madly in love with him."

Katy is now reportedly dating "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, who recently broke up with co-star Kristen Stewart. The interview didn't mention anything about their alleged romance, though.
