Troubled Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has been dethroned as celebrity with the most number of followers on microblogging site Twitter. He had just been overtaken by fellow singer Katy Perry whose followers reached 46.5 million as against Bieber's 46.49 million.

Bieber, who was again caught in another scandal being kicked out by Centaurus, a ritzy Brazilian brothel, held the crown for 9 years.

Experts explained the sudden surge in Katy Perry's Twitter fan base to the launch of her new album, Prism.

Katy sure knows how to attract the right numbers since that MTV of Roar has almost 175 million hits so far.

Insofar as Twitter is concerned, singers are usually the topnotchers when it comes to followers since in third place is Lady Gaga who has 40.4 million followers, while fifth placer Taylor Swift counts 36.25 million followers.

The surprise non-singer, but certainly a big global celebrity in fourth spot is U.S. President Barack Obama with 39.27 million Twitter followers. So where were these followers when it came to signing up for Obamacare? Reports said only six people initially listed for Obamacare.

Perry attributes her reaching the top on Twitter to learning how to deal with social media. Her advice to fellow celebrities is: "When you decide to have a glass of wine, put the phone down. Don't drink and tweet. Don't be self-indulgent. Don't use it just to promote yourself. That's boring," USA Today quoted her.

The battle for supremacy between the top 3 continues in Facebook where Lady Gaga rules with 60.35 million likes, followed by Katy with 59.25 million and Bieber at 57.27 million.

However, at the rate the Canadian teen singer is misbehaving, some fans may be turned off and become unBeliebers
