Kim Kardashian reposts controversial morning sickness drug advertisement on Instagram
Reality TV personality Kim Kardashian West has just reposted a controversial Instagram photo, where she endorses a morning sickness drug called Diclegis. After taking down the original post, she has shared a revised version on Monday, which includes more information.
“The FDA has told Duchesnay, Inc., that my last post about Diclegis (doxylamine succinate and pyridoxine HCl) was incomplete because it did not include any risk information or important limitations of use for Diclegis,” she said as she captioned the new photo.
The morning sickness drug, that she gushed about in a post back in July, is called Diclegis and the manufacturing company is Duchesnay. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning letter addressed to Duchesnay in early August stating that Kardashian’s post was “false or misleading.”
As Kardashian explained, the reason behind the US FDA’s concern is that she didn’t include details of the risks and limitations involved in using the drug. While she did post a link to that information, this didn’t meet the FDA standards and she was forced to remove the post.
In her new post on Sunday night, she went into more detail about the risks. She included the limitations of use as well as a list of side effects and precautions.
In her original post, Kardashian gushed about the morning sickness drug and claimed that it has helped her get over her morning sickness during her second pregnancy. Almost as soon as she announced her pregnancy back in June, she became very open about suffering from morning sickness.
When she posted the endorsement on Instagram, the post gathered mixed reactions from followers. Some immediately condemned the use of medication while pregnant. Others were offended by the obviously paid endorsement. On the other hand, other pregnant women or mothers who have experienced the same symptoms and gained relief through the use of the drug, gave her their support.
Kardashian is now the most followed person on Instagram with a reach of over 44 million people worldwide. Her massive reach has made her into a sought-after endorser and the U.S. FDA has exercised caution in regulating the content of her endorsement for the controversial drug.
