LA Noire fans won’t have to wait five years for the sequel
LA Noire fans will breathe a huge sigh of relief when Team Bondi honcho Brendan McNamara announced that it would take less than five years to make the sequel.
LA Noire took Australian development studio Rockstar and Team Bondi over five years to make. Years were spent just to figure out the structure of the game. The developers spent a lot of time researching the time period and getting the story right.
Then the studio had the bright idea to use MotionScan technology that allowed them to capture nuanced performances from their cast and the rest was game breaking history.
With LA Noire spending such a long time in development there were concerns that the next LA Noire game would take as long as the first. Fortunately Brendan McNamara reassured gamers that the sequel wouldn't take that long.
McNamara said in an interview on Gamer Live TV:
"Obviously the Motion Scan technology for capturing actors works and exists and other video game people are using that today, so that's there and available and quick," said McNamara. "We developed a lot of tools to make this kind of game, so I think that part of it will be shorter. The writing part you can't really make any shorter. You can make it shorter than five years, but we've also now started working on technology for [full] body capture."
This new technology can put actors in costumes and give their performances like they would for television or film. This would also make it easier for game developers. The new technology could open endless possibilities for future games.
In the next few years, games could attain a level of realism never before seen. The sequel of LA Noire will be worth the wait.
