Lady Gaga and her mum, Cynthia Germanotta launched their "Born This Way" foundation on Wednesday, February 29 over Harvard University. The singer kicked off the foundation with hopes to empower the youth in America.

Another influential person who was in attendance was Oprah Winfrey. She gave a speech which aims to support the foundation that Gaga and her mother put together.

"Lady Gaga, with her music and her message and her own story, is breaking the form, and she is changing consciousness," Oprah said.

"She says that she wasn't put on earth just to sing songs; her passion is to be that force for good. The 'Born This Way' foundation is in line with so many of my core beliefs."

Before she went on with her speech, Gaga enthusiastically acknowledged Oprah's presence during the event. Later on she pointed out that the foundation wasn't an anti-bullying foundation, rather she emphasized that it was a youth-empowering foundation.

"This is not an anti-bullying foundation; this is a youth-empowerment foundation," the singer said.

"This is about changing the climate of the school environment and not putting the power in the hands of the teachers or the government. It is about the bubble effect. I don't believe they have the answers; I believe that you do."

During her speech, Gaga told her fans that her biggest influence in starting a foundation like the one she put up was her mum, Cynthia Germanotta. She said that since she was young, her mother always stressed about giving back.

She also revealed about the "Born Brave Bus" which will travel and follow her tour bus around the country which will primarily welcome anyone who needs to talk or needs some kind of support in terms of love and acceptance.

Lady Gaga explained that one of the core values of the foundation is to be brave.

"This, again, is not focused on bullying, the bravery aspect; I want for young people to know they have the power. How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?" Gaga said.
