'The Last Kingdom': Meaning and history behind the name Alfred; Uhtred Son of Uhtred video
Alfred is the main focus of a new titbit about “The Last Kingdom” that has been released online. Meanwhile, filming for Season 2 continues in full swing with the cast members sharing more behind the scenes pictures and videos.
A poster on the official Facebook page of the TV series reveals some details about the name Alfred. The name is obviously masculine, and is used in English, French, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. It is derived from the Old English name Ælfr æd. It is composed of the elements ælf “elf” and r æd “counsel.”

In the TV series Alfred (David Dawson) becomes the king of the last Saxon kingdom that resists the invasion of the Danes. He is able to successfully defend his kingdom with the help of Uthred (Alexander Dreymon). The two characters, have an uneasy partnership, however, and there are constant fights that break out.
Filming for “The Last Kingdom” Season 2 began in June. Cast member Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith) continues to tease some behind the scenes pictures and videos from the production set. The latest picture she shared is from her makeup trailer, with a little puppy. More behind the scenes pictures have been posted on the official Instagram page of the TV series.

The producers have also been releasing videos to help the fans through the long wait for the next season. The recently uploaded video is focused on Uhtred. The character is Uhtred son of Uhtred, and in the first season he had a son. The video acknowledges the humour of the situation, and points out how confusing it can get for the uninitiated.
“The Last kingdom” Season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2017. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date. The story is expected to focus on the continued efforts of Alfred and Uhtred to resist the Danes.
