Turtle Rock Studios' asymmetric take on PVP multiplayer "Evolve" may have gotten off to a shaky start due to gamers' concerns with DLCs, but it has since earned back some of consumers' trust by adding new maps through the DLC route for no added price. The idea is to prevent the fragmentation of the multiplayer component owing to fragmentation brought upon by maps being restricted to those who pay for DLCs. The latest update from the developers of "Left4Dead" games continues this tradition by adding more free maps in addition to other goodies.

The latest update adds a wide array of content for the 4-versus-1 monster-hunting FPS, starting with four new playable Hunters and one additional Monster, which takes the total Monster count to four. The additions also include two free maps and one new mode dubbed Observer Mode, which is also given away free, according to Polygon. Interestingly, the war of exclusivity spills over to "Evolve" as well, with Microsoft claiming dibs on the two free maps for Xbox One. These freebies will come to PC and PS4 only by the end of April.

However, not everything included in the update is available for free. Behemoth, the fourth playable Monster, is available for a hefty $15 through the Monster Expansion Pack. Those who have pre-ordered the game will, however, have to pay no extra cost. Each of the four new Hunters cost $7.50 each as a standalone purchase. "Evolve" owners who have already purchased the $25 Hunting Season Pass won't have to pay extra.

PC Mag notes that the new Monster called Behemoth has been touted as the largest one in the game so far. Its unique ability allows it to transform into a deadly boulder that can flatten unsuspecting Hunters in its path. The powerful creature has the ability to summon massive walls of rocks that can be used defensively to block enemy fire or even to trap and kill individual Hunters. The Behemoth can even launch explosive magma projectiles as an effective offensive weapon against the Hunters.

The four new Hunters themselves are quite varied in their appearance and pack quite a bit of firepower themselves. These include Torvald, Crow, Slim and Sunny. Torvald is an assault class character described as a cyborg with one of his arms replaced with mortar cannon. Crow belongs to the trapper class and comes with his own pet called Batray that assists him in tracking Monsters. Slim is introduced as a "genetically modified combat Medic." The last addition is Sunny, which is a support character packing in an outrageously powerful mininuke grenade launcher.

The Observer Mode is primarily targeted for those who want to livestream matches along with commentary. The mode allows gamers to spectate as the sixth player and livestream the match without the need for any additional equipment. This is a great addition for the scores of letsplayers populating YouTube.

Gamespot reports that all players will be able to fight against or alongside any of the newly released Hunters and Monster irrespective of whether they have bought them or not. The publisher 2K Games believes this move will make the multiplayer experience seamless without dividing the community based on exclusive paid DLCs.
