Leagoo Venture 1 specs, features and review: Luxurious 5-inch smartphone with dual OS
Chinese electronic companies are gradually taking over the mobile industry. Brands like Huawei and Oppo will be global household names in the near future thanks to outstanding products that come with reasonable price tags. One company is also trying to follow those tech giants’ footsteps as it tries to establish itself with luxurious and affordable varieties of smartphones.
Leagoo started out back in April 2014. In just a short amount of time, the company has turned heads and gained fans with uniquely designed releases like the T1 and T1 Plus. Leagoo’s new handset, the Venture 1, is bound to do the same with its elegant Nano waterproof and shock-proof prismatic metal body and handcrafted calfskin.
Leagoo Venture 1 – What’s good about it
The Leagoo Venture 1 boasts of a 5.0-inch HD IPS display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and 368 ppi pixel density that is protected from scratches by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 panel. The Venture 1 equips a 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 1.3 GHz octa-core processor, Mali-T720 GPU, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and an external microSD memory slot that is expandable up to 128 GB for added flexibility. The handset packs a 3,000 mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery, which is good enough to last a whole day of moderate usage.
The Venture 1 also features super-fast charging technology. The device is able to reach 50 percent battery life in just 30 minutes of charging thanks to its LQC (Leagoo Quick charger) 5V/1.5A power adapter. It comes with GSM, LTE and W-CDMA network support and Bluetooth 4.0.
The smartphone runs on Leagoo Dual Sec OS 1.0, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The operating system supposedly boosts the Venture 1’s internal security. The phone is also equipped with an FM radio, as well as a gravity sensor, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and an eCompass.
A great feature of the dual-SIM enabled Leagoo handset is that it allows users to use duplicate accounts on apps like WeChat and Facebook. Users also get to choose and switch operating systems (personal or business) with just a fingerprint scan for easy access. Inside, the Venture 1 furnishes a “bank-level security chip” as reinforcement.
The Leagoo Venture 1’s primary camera is a 13 MP Sony autofocus sensor with true tone flash and an f/2.0 aperture. The front-facing 8 MP f/2.8 secondary camera comes with 84-degree wide angle lens for quality selfies and video calls. Fingerprint captures are also enabled thanks to its scanner.
The Oppo F1 and the Vivo V3 are perhaps the two devices most comparable to the Venture 1. The three handsets have exactly the same display panel and size, screen resolution, RAM and camera megapixels. But the Venture 1 beats those two when it comes to looks, battery capacity and security features.
Leagoo Venture 1 – What’s not so good about it
While the Leagoo handset is able to record 1080p HD videos at 30 frames per second with its rear camera, not the same can be said about its front camera. The Venture 1’s selfie camera also isn’t up to par in terms of aperture with those of the Oppo F1 and the Vivo V3. This basically means that the F1 and the V3 can cram in more faces and objects when taking selfies.
Overall camera quality of the Venture 1 is decent, but not great. Three stars out of five sounds just about right. Selfies with the Venture 1 can also get a little tiring after a while due to its above average heaviness.
The dual OS setup, as previously mentioned, is great, but it would have been better if it was based on a later version of Android. It doesn’t actually have to be the latest, which is 7.1 Nougat. Android 6.0 Marshmallow would have been enough to separate the Venture 1 from the Oppo F1 and the Vivo V3, both of which run on 5.1 Lollipop.
Leagoo Venture 1 – Price, colour options and verdict
The Leagoo Venture 1 is available in three colours: amber brown, royal red and wisdom black. The box comes with a power adapter, a USB cable, a pair of earphones and an English manual. The handset, considering its lavish design and overall specs, is reasonably priced at US$169.99 (AU$224.99) and is definitely worth every penny.
