Leak reveals Samsung Galaxy S8 & Galaxy S8 Edge release date, specs & prices; 5.8-inch & 6.2-inch screens tipped
If latest reports are to be believed, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge will release on March 29. A tech writer who keeps leaking information on tech products has taken to Twitter to let his fans know about the upcoming launch. The flagship phones may come with even larger screens than Galaxy Note 7’s 5.7-inch screen. Reports suggest a 5.8-inch display for the Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch screen for the Galaxy S8 Edge variant. The screens may cover 83 percent of the front panels, leaving little space for the bezels.
According to CNET, Samsung may have dropped the capacitive buttons to make more room for the display. Samsung is heavily banking on the Galaxy S8 phone to regain buyer confidence and even attract fresh buyers who, Samsung believes, will love the flagship for its top-class specs and incredible design. Samsung is going with a revised 8-point battery-testing procedure and is leaving more space for the batteries. A March 29 unveiling could mean the devices may go on sale on April 14 or 18. The devices won’t appear at the MWC 2017.
VentureBeat notes that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge handsets at a New York Unpacked event and not MWC 2017 so that it has some extra time to test the smartphones. The 5.8-inch smartphone may carry a retail price tag of €799 (AU$1,100 approx) whereas the 6.2-inch model may cost €899 (AU$1,200 approx). In Europe, the flagships may go on sale on April 21.
According to The Guardian, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will have a 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 and an 8MP front camera. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset or Samsung Exynos processors, depending on the market. Other features include 64GB internal storage with microSD expansion, 4GB RAM, 3,000 mAh battery for 5.8-inch variant or 3,500 mAh for the 6.2-inch variant, USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.
