More than the iPod, the iPhone remains to be the flagship device of Apple. MacBook computers may have carved their niche and created a huge following but the iPhone placed the company into a completely new level. They became the standard of tech companies because of the handset.

Unfortunately, the same device ushered in a new set of competitors. The most infamous of these rivals is Samsung. When the Korean tech giant decided to bet on the mobile industry, Apple found its match.

There are many factors affecting the rivalry between the two. Apple lost Steve Jobs - their main man and the person behind nearly every innovative device of the company. Likewise, Samsung used to work with Apple in production of the devices.

The falling out of the two companies heightened the rivalry. While Samsung seemed to learn its way into the business, gaining majority of the market share and all, Apple, on the other hand, seemed to be losing its foot.

The constant pressure to come up with something as innovative as their flagship device and pressure of competitors putting out high end but more affordable products lead to many reports saying that Apple could be planning on a new game changer. Rumors of an entry-level or lower end phone offering similar features surface.

Apple will supposedly release the more affordable iPhone 5C. According to reports, the device will be made from cheaper materials. For instance, the company will be substituting the standard aluminum and glass with plastic.

Business Insider reported a story about "Leak expert" and blogger Sonny Dickson revealing several high-quality shots of the supposed device. The photos provide offer a better look at Apple's next mobile handset. Considering the more affordable price, Apple can sell their cheaper handset fairly well.

In fact, according to UBS analyst Steve Milunovich, iPhone 5c or iPhone M, however people want to refer to now, can have explosive sales. The idea of getting something from a high end brand at a fraction of a cost can boost the sales of the company.

However, this trigger for better sales can also be the water that puts out the fire for the sales of other Apple products. The tech giant will need to invest on its strategy to make sure it does not lose ground on its other offerings.
