The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro and the Apple MacBook Air are two technological wonders in the laptop realm that bring aesthetics, form and function together in one powerful device. The two are impressive when it comes to everyday use; however, there are some differences that are worth knowing especially when deciding what to get between the two.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro

There is no question that the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro is a better version of its predecessor when it was unveiled at the IFA 2013. The IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro features the standard dual-hinge design that allows its display to be set in four various modes - stand, tent, tablet and laptop. The screen went through a dramatic transformation. Screen size is at 13.3 in while resolution increased to 3200 x 1800 pixels. This makes its screen one of the brightest in the market today at 350 nits.

Lenovo also made sure they made a face-lift with the chassis. Although it appears the same, the newer Lenovo laptop sports a thinner chassis at 1.5mm compared to 1.71mm before. Furthermore, Lenovo's makeover took off a lot of weight improving portability of the device. The IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro weighs 3.06 lbs.

The IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro features a Core i7 processor with integrated graphics, and up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory. Storage options include 128, 256, or 512 GB SSDs, and I/O ports consist of one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, micro HDMI, and an SD/MMC card reader.

The Apple MacBook Air

Unlike the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro, this laptop does not flip and fold into different modes; however, it features a 13 or 15.4-inch display supported by LED-backlit glossy widescreen with support for "millions of colours," according to Apple. It weighs 2.96 lbs and 0.11-0.68 in thick.

The resolution of the MacBook Air is 1440 x 900 pixels, which is much less than the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro. This Apple device also sports a 2.9 GHz dual-core configured Intel Core i7 processor. It has a Turbo Boost with up to 3.6 GHz, with a 4 MB L3 cache. It has the 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory with a 750 GB 5400-rpm hard drive. Similar to the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro it also has 2 USB ports, a thunderbolt port, and an SDXC card slot.

The Verdict

Both laptops are undeniably functional and well-reviewed. The Apple MacBook Air leads in weight and thickness but the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro beats it in resolution and flexibility.

The 13" MacBook Air costs between $1099 and $1299, and the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro starts at $1099.
