LG Announces Launch of G2 Flagship Android Phone
LG has made solid progress in the smartphone market. LG Mobile CEO Jong-Soek Park announced his company's newest flagship smartphone G2 handset on Wednesday at a glitzy New York event at Lincoln Center.
New flagship phone from LG comes with a unique design with volume and power controls on the back .By installing the buttons on the back and engineering the circuitry and electronics around that design choice, the phone's bezel is only 0.1 inches thick. The LG G2 is the world's first smartphone to be completely devoid of side buttons. Park describes it as "clean, with nothing on the sides to break the beautiful lines.""Think about it- where is your index finger when you are talking on the phone?" Park said. "Relocating power and volume buttons to the back ... changes the way we interact with the form. Simply everything is more convenient."
The LG G2 has a bezel-to-bezel 5.2-inch full-high-definition IPS display that LG claims is the biggest screen size on a phone that can be held comfortably. The phone is very thin. It runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, the version on many high-end rival phones. LG G2 offers superior graphics, precise colours and clean images without any distortion using IPS technology, along with a powerful 2.26 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Processor. The 800 processor offers 75% better performance than the S4 Pro processor used in the LG Optimus G. The 800 has four core processors, each clocked at 2.3 GHz, up from 1.7 GHz per core in the LG Optimus G. For more efficient energy usage, the LG G2 uses Graphic RAM (GRAM) technology. GRAM reduces the display's energy use by up to 26 percent on a still frame and increases overall usage time on the device by approximately 10 percent. It also has 32 GB of internal storage. There is no expansion option, but LG customers can get up to 50 GB of free online storage through Box, and with a 3,000mAh battery it will be able to last 1.2 days.
The LG G2′s high-resolution13-megapixel camera comes equipped with Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) technology in a slim design without a protruding lens to prevent blurring, allowing for clearer, brighter and sharper images even when in motion or shooting in dim environments. Its Super Resolution and Multi-point AF features help keep everything in focus. It is also equipped with Hi-Fi sound quality to meet users' audio needs as they listen to music, play games and watch movies.
LG said the G2 also features an "outstanding user experience" that includes ways to answer a phone by saying, "answer me" or to turn on or off the phone by tapping the screen twice. A special "Slide Aside" app allows ease in moving applications aside to multi-task. Its other features include an option to have the phone automatically pick up a call (and lower the ringtone volume) when a user lifts the phone to his or her ear. The phone also allows users to set up a "guest mode" on the G2, which offers up the option to set up a restricted section of the phone, with its own lock screen pattern, that allows access only to certain apps.
LG said the G2 will be available in South Korea this month, and will be gradually rolled out in other countries starting next month. Specific dates for market availability will vary by region and carrier.
