The market has new players in town. Gone are the days when handsets are just for texting and calling. Tablets are also no longer just for surfing and games. More and more companies are combining the portability and functions of tablets and smartphones. Two excellent examples are LG's G2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Which device has better multitasking capabilities?

S-Pen vs Touch Functions

One of the most notable features of the Galaxy Note 3 is the S Pen. The multi-functional S-Pen allows individuals to open a number of applications. The S Pen offers pressure sensing, precise handwriting recognition and Action Memo.

Other functions of the S Pen include:

  • Handwriting text input - people can choose to use handwriting as the entry method for texts. Users can either choose to direct capture their handwriting or handwriting to text conversion.
  • Easy clip - this feature allows people to clip parts of their screen and share it through third party services.
  • S Note - this lets users create professional looking presentations and use various media like video, images and voice memos. People can simply drag bars to their charts.

LG took a page out of Samsung's book. It incorporated a similar system similar to Samsung's TouchWiz. LG's G2 features a smart screen which can detect if the user is looking at the screen. This prevents the device from auto-locking.

LG also included a double-tap gesture system for phone activation. This is a more convenient option than pressing the home screen button and swiping over the screen to unlock it.

Multi-Window vs QSlide

Multi-Window is one of the most practical features of the Samsung Note. The Multi-Window system lets people use the whole screen. This can increase productivity as the Note 3 can also remember the last applications opened using Multi-Window. People can go back to their work easily. It is also very easy to switch windows. The device responds swiftly.

The Q Slide follows a similar structure or design to Sony's small apps although it only has a two-window support system. Users can change the size of the mini app based on their preference. They can find a dedicated shortcut to access the full screen app. LG included a transparency scrubber. Once a user reduces the transparency, even slightly, the mini app will no longer be active. The user can access whatever is under the app.
