LG G4 Release Date Set For April: LG Chief Says G4 Will Be ‘Radically Different’ From G3; LG-Built Chip Likely In, Snapdragon 810 Out
The long-awaited LG G4 has skipped the MWC 2015 event, while the counterparts from Samsung and HTC made grand appearances. However, now, LG has apparently disclosed details about its upcoming flagship device and also about a new high-end smartphone.
Cho Juno, the chief of LG's mobile unit has reportedly stated that the LG G3 successor will be “radically different” from the predecessor. This means, the LG G4 will apparently feature a “metal-mixtured” body to give strong competition to the flagships from other OEMs. And quite interestingly, the upcoming handset will be powered by a LG-made chipset, notes Korea Times. Therefore, similar to Samsung, LG may not be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC on its device. Also notably, the LG G4 release date is reportedly set for April.
Speaking to media, Juno apparently said the following: "Producing our own mobile application chips is very important. As LG Electronics has been consistent in developing these, we plan to gradually incorporate into our new models.”
Meanwhile, Juno has also confirmed that the LG G4 will be unveiled only after the introduction of the LG UX 4. The LG UX 4 is the new UX (user-experience) Android skin that will reportedly be part of the G4 smartphone. Surprisingly, Juno has acknowledged that the tech giant is impressed by Samsung's new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6. In addition, he has apparently appreciated the hardware prowess of Samsung and he is confident that the G4 will be as brilliant as the Samsung device.
Speaking of sales, LG is reportedly working to regain the “third-largest smartphone maker in terms of sales” spot in 2015. Therefore, the marketing campaign surrounding the LG G4 in the U.S. and also in South Korea will be aggressive, says the same site.
On the other hand, Korean Herald says, in addition to the G4, the tech giant is reportedly planning to release a high-end smartphone with cutting-edge specifications later this year, to be in line with Samsung and Apple devices. On the new unnamed device, Juno reportedly said the following: "We are planning to release a product that stands above the G series. It will be launched during the second half of this year."
In South Korea, LG's previous high-end smartphones reportedly came with a price of 900,000 won (i.e. roughly $817). Therefore, based on the industry watchers’ view, the new handset could set the buyers back by 1 million+ won (i.e. roughly $908) in South Korea, says the same site.
