LG G5 leaked teaser shows 'Always On’ display
The significantly redesigned successor of the popular LG G4, the LG G5, will feature an 'Always On' display mode, according to a recently leaked teaser.
Android Authority reports this mode is the first feature of the smartphone to be officially revealed by the company, after the publication obtained the first teaser image of the LG G5, which displays “Always On” along with the LG G5 logo.
According to sources, Android Authority also said LG would come up with something different to what Motorola and Google had tried with ‘Ambient Display’ on AMOLED devices. The G5's ‘Always On’ display will be a full-screen version of the LG V10's second screen.

For those unaware, the LG V10 has two screens; a main 5.7-inch QHD display along with a secondary inset display which can be used for quick notifications. The secondary display can be set to ‘Always On’ mode to show information like the date, weather and time.
The LG V10's second screen can also be used as a shortcut to access the user's most preferred apps. This means the ‘Always On’ mode on the LG G5 will allow for more customisation but on a full-screen, and with the self-emitting AMOLED displays, will show important information like the time, message notifications, reminders and weather updates without consuming much power.
However, the device's backlit LCD displays eat up more battery than the AMOLED screens, so only time will tell how LG is going to resolve the issue of increased power consumption with its ‘Always On’ display.’
The other rumoured LG G5 specs include 5.6-inch QHD display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage; Android 6.0 Marshmallow; 20-megapixel rear camera sensor for Sony with an Iris Eye Recognition scanner; support for LG G Pay and a new accessory slot at the bottom.
The phone is slated to be unveiled on Feb 21 at the Mobile World Congress (2016).
Prevailing rumours indicate that LG rival, Samsung, is also planning to incorporate ‘Always On’ mode to its Galaxy S7 series of handsets.
