LG G6 vs Moto G5 Plus: Motorola adds a touch of premium, compares well with LG flagship
Major smartphone companies unveiled some of their greatest products during the Mobile World Congress 2017. LG G6 and Moto G5 Plus are two such products received with a lot of anticipation. The former is a high-end device while the latter a budget-focused phone. It will be interesting to see how these two fare against each other.
In terms of size, weight and build, the Moto G5 Plus has more bezels around its screen than the LG handset, which has minimal bezels. The Motorola handset is five percent less heavy than the LG handset. The former weighs 155g and the latter 163g. Moto G phones are known to offer plastic builds to keep down prices. This time though, G5 Plus comes with a plastic-aluminium build, compared to LG’s glass-aluminium build. The metal back in Moto set is the company’s way of adding a touch premium.
The LG G6 handset has much more significant water and dust resistance due to its IP68 rating. The Motorola handset is only approved for moderate splashes, spills and light rain. It is available in gold and lunar grey colour variants, whereas the LG flagship is available in Platinum, black and white variants. With a 5.7-inch display, the G6 has 13 percent bigger screen by area than the Moto’s 5.2-inch display. The LG handset also has a sharper display with 2,880 x 1,440 pixels resolution and 564ppi.
The Moto G5 Plus has a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels screen resolution, which also is a pretty decent display. Both use IPS display panels. Processor-wise the G6 is way ahead of the G5 Plus with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset powering the device. There is a Snapdragon 625 chipset in the Motorola handset, though performance-wise, the device has done a great job in the mid-range smartphone category. The LG phone has a 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, expandable via microSD card and a 3,300mAh battery.
The Moto handset has a 2GB RAM for its 32GB storage handset and 4GB RAM for its 64GB handset. It also has a microSD card and 3,000mAh battery. Quick charging technology is installed in both the smartphones. The LG G6 has a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera while the Moto G5 Plus has a 12MP primary and 5MP selfie camera. Many experts have found the Moto camera equally great. OIS is present only in the LG handset and it also has a second camera lens on the rear to toggle between standard and wide-angle views.
Moto G5 Plus lacks NFC. Fingerprint sensor on LG G6 is rear-mounted and on the other front-mounted. Both run on Android Nougat OS. The Moto smartphone is expected sometime this month whereas the LG one could be released in March or April, reports New Atlas.
