Google aims to be a great player in the smartphone market with the imminent release of LG Nexus 5.

According to reports, the device aims to beat other rumoured low cost smartphones such as iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. The three smartphones seemed to have close release dates with each other. Thus, expect intense competition among the companies as consumers will have more options.

The successor of LG Nexus 4 coined as Nexus 5 is rumoured to sport a 5-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080) display translating into a pixel density of 440ppi. The device is also speculated to be equipped with NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with 2GB of RAM, 8/16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and a 3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Other rumoured specs of the Nexus 5 include Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that possesses a clock rate of 2.3GHz. The CPU finds assistance in 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Storage options are provided in the form of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal memory. Adding to the list of these highly questionable details is a 3300mAh Li-polymer battery, under the hood.

The smartphone will bear the same affordable price as its predecessor, which is one of the selling points of LG Nexus 4.

The rumoured Nexus 5 will be running the latest Android iteration out of the box, and since the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is expected to launch in May at Google I/O, this will be the version underpinning the new flagship smartphone.

Earlier leaks claimed that the device would be launching in multiple versions with a 4.3in display and up to quad-core processor depending on model: a dual-SIM version, which will likely not launch in the UK, would feature a dual-core processor, while a single-sim version supporting either 3G HSPA+ or 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity would include a quad-core chip. All versions, however, would include the same 4.3in Super AMOLED qHD display with a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch (PPI).

While Samsung is disclosing its plans to launch a Galaxy S4 Mini, SamMobile claims to have word that it will be announcing the device later this week - with a view to releasing the device towards the end of May or the start of June. According to the site's anonymous source, the handset will be available in two colours at launch: Black Mist and White Frost.

The low cost iPhone 5S, on the other hand, is rumoured to sport a plastic casing, 4-inch screen display, dual core processor and 8-megapixel camera.
