Apple's upcoming 2013 handsets, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6, will bring in new look and features thanks to the recently revised iOS 7 plus the likely introduction of superfast network access.

A new report revealed that future editions of iOS devices, with the iPhone 5S as likely the initial recipient, would be capable of up to 150Mbps download speed, essentially doubling the current long-term evolution (LTE) bandwidth size in effect.

According to Engadget, negotiations are underway between Apple and South Korean telco SK Telecom to provide smartphone subscribers in Korea of an iPhone variety with LTE-Advanced chip.

"SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations," the same report quoted an unidentified SK Telecom official as saying.

The same source implied that consumers can expect the iPhone 5S with LTE-A "in the coming months," which likely will collide head-on with another Galaxy S4 variant of similar capability from Samsung.

The Asian tech giant announced in June that a GS4 with a new LTE chip will hit the global markets in the immediate months ahead.

And aside from providing new killer features with its fresh gadget offerings, Apple is beefing up the wow-factor of its new handsets, specifically the user interface that comes with the re-coded iOS 7, Patently Apple said in a report.

Months before the official rollout of the iOS 7-powered iPhone 5S and iPhone 6, Apple filed for trademark ownerships of the new icons that will welcome users to the redesigned iOS device environment.

The tech site reported that "an avalanche of new iOS 7 icon trademark filings popped up in both the US and Canada." Some of the new icons represent the following applications: Camera, Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Mail and Compass.

As expected, the general icon rendering is in line with the dominant iOS 7 design principle - flat, simple and free of clutter.

The new icons will debut alongside with the iPhone 5S, which analysts said will see a likely release date this coming September. To follow in a few months or by early 2014 is the 5.7-inch iPhone 6, Apple's rumoured take on the growing on the growing phablet market.
