Likely New Power Features & Interface of iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 Based on iOS 7 Beta 5
Beta build number five of the iOS 7 was made available by Apple this week to developers and as in previous seeding, the release previewed the killer features and interface to come with the separate iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 releases.
The new iOS 7 fifth beta patch, a hefty 150MB, is being pushed out over-the-air (OTA) and via direct download from Apple's Developer Centre. While the new version "contains bug fixes and improvements," Apple reminds that it "should only be deployed on devices dedicated for iOS 7 beta software development."
While efforts were made to eliminate the bugs seen in the first four betas, issues linger and one specific challenge awaiting developers is "that application downloads can become stuck in a waiting state," Apple Insider said in a report.
This, however, is easily corrected by rebooting the device subject twice.
All said, the fifth iOS 7 beta instalment heralds the fresh iPhone and iPad features everyone expect plus some new interface tweaks, a number of which are discussed below.
Boot Screen
The iOS 7 boot screen now splashes colour that matches that of the handset where it is installed. For example, a white device shows off the same colour screen and so is for the black-shelled iOS gadget.
But this alteration seems to be limited for now with the iPhone 5, according to MacRumors.
Powering off
Apple also redesigned the sliding bar that appears when users are powering down their iPhone. The edit, however, is minimal but easily noticeable.
Notification Banner
Taking a page from Android, iOS 7 adds pull down option to the notification bar, which like in Google presents more information to users.
Phone Calls
While in a call, the iPhone pulls up a screen with a menu of icons. In iOS 7, this basically is the same interface that users will see but Apple placed each icon inside a circle and decided to give them slight size boosts.
Settings Redesign
The blue Settings icons have been reconfigured in iOS 7 beta 5 - users are now presented with squared representations, which are in various colours, depending on functions, with icons printed in white.
Control Centre
This panel is normally accessed by swiping the bottom screen of an iPhone but in beta 5, users are given the option to disable this function, purportedly to do away with distractions during app use or game playing.
Most of these new features and iOS look should be realised by the time the final iOS 7 build is rolled out by Apple in September, which should come with the rumoured successive releases of the iPhone 5C (or iPhone Lite), iPad 5 and iPhone 5S in the same month.
