Madonna was not wasted in Melbourne concert, rep says
Singer reportedly suffered onstage meltdown on second night
Amid reports Madonna was wasted during her first night at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, her representative says the allegations are not true.
Attendees of the “Like A Virgin” singer posted in social media videos of her during a leg of her “Rebel Heart” world tour concert in Melbourne on Thursday. Fans observed that during her performance, Madonna looked tipsy and her speech was slurred. However, she was not drunk, and she only had one Cosmo, her rep told TMZ. The 57-year-old singer was also just clowning around as part of the show’s vibe.
Following her rep’s defence, the pop queen had a similar inebriated tirade on Saturday, also at the Rod Laver Arena. Fans witnessed her drinking from a bottle of tequila and falling to the ground when she attempted to ride on a tricycle, according to reports.
“Someone please f--k me,” Madonna beckoned to her audience, according to the Sun. “Somebody take care of me, please. Who is going to take care of me?” She also skipped some songs during Saturday night’s show, to which she reportedly said, “It’s all going pear-shaped up here.”
Reports claim that the singer was emotional during her “Rebel Heart” tour in Australia due to her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over their 15-year-old son, Rocco. The two men attended a hearing on Thursday, but Madonna was unable to appear in court due to her concert.
A Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled in December 2015 that Rocco had to return to his mother’s home, but the teenager defied the order and remained on his father’s side in London, according to the New York Post. As a result, the judge said Rocco can stay in England until his parents agree about his custody.
Despite allegations against her, Madonna took to Instagram to write, “Melbourne was fun! Brisbane here we come!” Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” tour continues at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Mar. 16 and 17, before proceeding to Sydney's Allphones Arena on Mar. 19 and 20.
