Zynga's sequel to the popular "Mafia Wars" will have more crime and more social interaction than its predecessor.

"Mafia Wars 2" will be released in the coming weeks on Facebook and it will be more sophisticated and action-focused than any other game on the social network. The sequel will also get an upgrade graphics-wise so that players can see those pools of blood better.

The game starts off with the player taking on the role of a mafia guy just out of prison trying to make a name in the city of sin, Las Vegas. Players will have the option of building casinos, crystal labs or a growhouse. The game is a combination of real-time strategy game mixed in with single-player action.

You can create your own town where you can build your empire but at the same time you can head to Casino Row, one of the eight multiplayer zones where you can challenge other players to fight. The fights aren't one-on-one but a grand melee where everyone can join in. Beating another player will net you their cash and a chance to raid their town. Players can level-up their skills to better kill other players and there will be premium perks that can be purchased using real money.

"Mafia Wars 2" will be more social with players able to use Facebook shout-outs to ask for help or just to taunt their enemies. The social aspect will play a large part in the game with players needing to rely on their friends for back-up.

Thematically "Mafia Wars 2" is the most mature game, Zynga has released and the team thinks there's a market for such games on the social network and not just on consoles. Comparisons to "Grand Theft Auto" will be made but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"A lot of people play those happy games, but there is also a need for these," says Ian Wang, product manager at Zynga. "You know, it's a fantasy release. If you've been having a bad day, you want to go into the game and grab a baseball bat."
