Manchester United Hires First Ever Coach in a Wheelchair

Manchester United has been well-known for its ground breaking signings over the past decades. One of the biggest clubs in England made another history by hiring the first ever football coach in a wheelchair, Sohail Rehman,

The Red Devils made an inspirational signing and added another important member of its staff.

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome Sohail to Manchester United, his determination to reach a unique role in football is an example to us all," a Manchester United spokesman said.

A member of Broxtowe Borough Council, Ruth Hyde posted images of Rehman with Robin van Persie in Twitter.

The 22-year-old, who became the first football coach at professional level who uses a wheelchair, has been signed up by Manchester United to work with the club's academy. Rehman will adopt a crucial role looking after young players and coaching potential stars of the future.

Rehman thanked the former United boss David Moyes for giving him the initial opportunity to coach with the club, saying that he was the man who "started everything off," according to Bradford's Telegraph and Argus, via Eurosport

Sohail Rehman, was born with spinal muscular atrophy, which made walking an arduous task until it became completely intolerable when he turned 13. He remained a passionate fan and player despite enormous difficulty in the rough and frequently unforgiving world of football. He was quite determined not to let the condition push him out of the field. When he was 16, he took his coaching badges and went on to coach his local club's under-10 team.

Rehman spent the rest of his time pitch-side, at school and at Old Trafford with the Manchester United disabled supporters association.

Two years ago, he received a letter at his home from the former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, which made his dreams come true.
