Football powerhouse Real Madrid are brewing up a ploy to snatch Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney away from England, according to sources.

The Los Blancos are poised to make a £25million bid for the 28-year-old, who has a contract that is about to expire in 18 months and has yet to sign an extension with the Red Devils, this coming summer.

It will be an interesting neck-and-neck battle between the La Liga outfit and Chelsea to convince the unsettled striker to go their way.

On one hand, the Blues can offer Rooney a lucrative deal with an advantage of him not having to go anywhere and stay with his family.

On the other hand, Real gives him a rare opportunity of playing for the biggest club in the world aside from the glitz and glamour at the Spanish capital and the fact of a possible reunion with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

After all has been said, it will still boil down to Rooney's decision of picking a deal that will benefit not only his career, but as well as his personal life.

Chelsea has the edge, Real Madrid tempts, but who knows? He might want to end his career wearing red.
