Melania Trump insists: Donald is a ‘gentleman’ who respects women
Despite the surfacing of women who claimed to be sexually assaulted by Donald Trump, his wife, Melania, maintains that the Republican presidential nominee is a gentleman, dismissing his sexual explicit language as mere “boy talk.”
A soft-spoken and composed Mrs. Trump came to the defense of the real estate businessman, who is racing to the White House amid allegations of sexual misconduct. In an interview with CNN, Melania said Donald was “egged on” into “boy talk” by Billy Bush, referring to the recently unearthed 2005 audio recording of lewd conversations between the two while filming NBC’s “Access Hollywood.”
Melania said Mr. Trump and Bush were engaged in a “boy talk” and that he was “egged on to say dirty and bad stuff.” Her statement echoes Donald’s earlier claim that the conversation was only a “locker room banter.”
“Sometimes I say I have two boys at home. I have my young son and I have my husband. I know how some men talk and that's how I saw it,” Melania said, suggesting that the controversial conversation was a mere “boy talk.”
The 46-year-old former model said she accepted Mr. Trump’s apology even after several women surfaced and claimed that they have been sexually assaulted by the presidential candidate. In his conversation with the NBC host, Trump bragged about automatically kissing attractive women and grabbing women by the pussy. "I said to my husband that, you know, the language was inappropriate. It's not acceptable. And I was surprised, because that is not the man that I know.
“He's raw. He tells it like it is. He's kind. He's a gentleman. He supports everybody. He supports women. He encourages them to go to the highest level, to achieve their dreams. He employs many, many women.”
Melania said women accusing her husband of sexually assaulting them should go to court and not in the media. (Read: Donald Trump earns fans, critics: Who are the celebrities voting for or against the US Republican nominee)
"Every assault should be taken care of in a court of law. And to accuse, no matter who it is, a man or a woman, without evidence is damaging and unfair," she pointed out.
Despite the damage Mr. Trump’s campaign is attracting to their marriage, Melania said she made it clear that she doesn’t want public sympathy.
“I’m very strong. People don’t really know me. People think and talk about me like, ‘Oh Melania, poor Melania.
“Don’t feel sorry for me. I can handle everything.”
