Opera Software, a Norwegian company has purchased the Melbourne-based email provider FastMail.fm for an unrevealed sum. According to ARN Net, Opera said in a statement that the asset expands its current messaging product collection and deliver cross-platform messaging to a broad range of devices, which includes mobile phones, computers, gaming consoles, and televisions.

Opera's chief strategy officer Rolf Assev told ARN Net that both Opera and FastMail.fm will be able to provide messaging on any device by combining forces. This may, in time, enhance the value Opera offers to customers, while backing-up their operator partners in customer churn reduction.

The statement also read that Opera will be capable to provide a consistent email experience across all products following the acquisition. FastMail.fm provides Web-based email platforms for small business and consumers.

A statement on FastMail.fm's website reads that the acquisition will seek to combine forces with Opera's expertise and technical teams to help build up new products.

Opera brags it has over 50 million users on its desktop browser and over 55 million users of Opera Mini, a mobile Web browser that functions on almost all mobile devices.
