Transportation provider Metlink has released the new Metlink Android app as beta, providing Victoria passengers with public transport information on the go.

Free for download in Android Market, the beta product is an early version of the app and Metlink is asking customers to test it out and submit any feedback that will help improve the product for the final version.

Passengers can check scheduled departures for train, tram and bus, get real-time tram departures via tramTRACKER, plan their journey, view the unplanned changes for metropolitan trains, find their closest stops using GPS, load their favourite stations and stops for quick access to timetables and provide feedback via their handset.

The Metlink Android app has been developed as hybrid HTML 5 and can be downloaded at market.android.com. It will work on smartphones with an Android operating system 2.1 or higher.

Those without access to an Android smartphone can use the Metlink iPhone app, Nokia app or Metlink’s mobile departure board at metlink.mobi, from any internet enabled mobile phone.
