Michael Kors, netizens react to Melania Trump’s look, FLOTUS reads book to kids
Michael Kors has reacted to Melania Trump’s look during US President Donald Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress. The American fashion designer said the first lady knows what’s best for her.
“Mrs Trump has been a long-time client at our New York boutique. She has a keen understanding of what works best for her and her lifestyle,” Kors told the New York Times.
In her husband’s address to the Congress, the FLOTUS has opted to wear a black beaded skirt suit with the Kors label. Her choice has drawn both criticism and applause on social media, with some commenting that it’s too expensive while others say she looked great.
“It's Washington, not Hollywood. Leave the glittery dress at home, Melania Trump,” a Twiter user wrote. “She was gorgeous as usual! So elegant,” another social media user commented.
Melania’s choice of colour itself has raised questions of why she has opted to wear black. Several Democrats wore white as a way to “stand in solidarity with the women of our nation." The effort to wear white was reportedly led by Representative Lois Frankel of Florida.
Even the first daughter, Ivanka Trump, was criticised for her outfit during the aforementioned event. Ivanka picked a red off-the-shoulder dress that was allegedly designed by Roland Mouret.
Some netizens say it was not appropriate for a high-profile speech. "Ivanka and Melania's choice of dress last night would have been a fine choice if they were going to Studio 54,” a social media user commented.
W Magazine notes that Kors has been a supporter of Hilary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign, as well as her political career before she decided to run for presidency. In 2013, the Kors presented the former US secretary of state with the Michael Kors Award for Outstanding Community Service from God's Love We Deliver.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that the FLOTUS read book to a small group of children at a paediatric ward of New York Presbyterian Hospital on Friday, March 4. She picked “Oh, the Places You'll Go!,” which she said was one of her favourites.
"I came here to encourage everyone to read and to just think about the books and what you want to achieve in life," Melania said. The first lady reportedly brought a box of children’s books by Theodor Geisel for the kids to read. Geisel is more popularly known as Dr. Seuss.
