Microsoft Aims To Kill Nokia Brand Name, Future Nokia Handsets Will Be Launched As Microsoft Lumia
In the near future, new Windows Phone handsets will not carry the 'Nokia' name. According to The Verge, future Windows Phone handsets built by Nokia will be launched as Microsoft Lumia. After the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft in April this year for $7 billion, the software giant has been trying to slowly kill the Nokia brand name.
The social accounts of Nokia France on Facebook and Twitter are soon going to use the Microsoft Lumia brand name. Even other countries are going to receive the new brand name. PhoneArena claims that the Windows Phone apps will be soon referred to as Lumia apps. During the upcoming holiday season, Nokia smartphones will be referred to as Lumia smartphones.
The Verge says that even though Microsoft is in the rebranding process, Nokia will still continue to exist as a company that will plainly concentrate on mapping and network infrastructure. It won't exist as a handset manufacturing company.
As of now, it is not clear how the software giant will be using the Microsoft Lumia brand name on the chassis of its future products. The current Lumia handsets have the Nokia logo on both front and back side of the device. The Verge claims that Microsoft may opt to use Lumia or Microsoft on the front and rear side of the device. We will have to wait for a new Lumia device to roll out in the market to see how the company has used the Microsoft Lumia brand name.
According to PhoneArena, even though Nokia no longer exists as a handset manufacturing company, it will be always remembered as one of the best handset manufacturer in the world. The employees of Nokia, who have built amazing Lumia smartphones in the recent past, are now working with Microsoft to produce Lumia smartphones.
GSMArena claims that 90% of the Windows Phone products available in the market are Lumia devices. After the acquisition, Microsoft has put a lot of efforts in gaining good market share by making Windows Phone available through new vendors as big brands are currently not interested in selling Windows Phone handsets.
