Microsoft China is reportedly to post a teaser on its Wiebo site asking "Microsoft's latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a comeback?" accompanied by an image that shows the number 9 and the name Windows below the number, according to The Verge.

A Chinese site, Cnbeta is reported to be able to grab the image of the alleged Windows 9 logo before it was pulled out from the Weibo site shortly after it was posted. Microsoft China might have posted it by mistake but the press sees it as a confirmation that the new OS could be named as Windows 9 and that it might be released soon.

Neowin suggests that the image of the purported Windows 9 logo seems to match with Microsoft's modern UI philosophy and assumes that multiple desktops could come to the new OS.

Microsoft is expected to release the technical preview for developers and tech enthusiasts on Sept 30. Shortly after the release of the tech preview, Windows Threshold is expected to be released to the public, according to Neowin. Other reports suggests that Windows 9 will be released in April 2015.

Windows 9 is expected to have features including Cortana, windowed Metro-style apps to float in the desktop, virtual desktops, the new version of Internet explorer, new flat design on the whole OS and a lot more on Sept 30. Cortana is reported look like the ones seen on Windows Phones and it is also reported to have its own live tile on the Start screen. The charms bar is no longer expected. Other reports suggests that given the complaints about Windows 8, Microsoft has to make improvements on Windows 9 and it is certainly expected to be released in the future.

The logo of the upcoming version of Windows OS might only be posted by accident by Weibo and an update coming from Neowin suggests that the image posted on Weibo is a wallpaper created by a fan a few months ago and it is not an official image. But Neowin still believes that Windows Threshold could still be named Windows 9 since it was posted from Microsoft's official channel, intentionally or by accident.
