Microsoft Doubles OneDrive Space To 30GB Due To iOS 8 Update Issues

Microsoft announces that it will double OneDrive space from 15GB to 30GB. For old users, it will be from 25GB to 40GB. This is due to iOS 8 update issues where a large amount of storage is needed to update to the new OS and users have storage problems when trying to update.

Apple released the iOS 8 for iPhone, iPad and iTouch. The iOS 8 update comes in at 4.6GB and requires quite a large space on the devices at 5.7GB to install it on an iPhone. Compared to the previous operating systems and sometimes it could take up to 7GB on some iPad models. Although it varies on the device, still it takes up larger free space compared to the previous download of iOS. Users having iPhone 5C or those that have the 16GB variant of iPhone will most likely encounter issues.

Microsoft quickly responds to the update issue a few days after increasing the upload limit from 2GB to 10GB for single files and now, the company doubles OneDrive space up to 30GB which is effective immediately. However, this offer of doubling the storage capacity is only limited. Users will need to enable photos and video backup automatically to the service starting now until the end of the month.

This is a smart marketing campaign of increasing OneDrive capacity for Apple devices since this will make it easier for Apple users to upgrade its devices to iOS 8. The users will no longer need to delete those significant data, precious photos, videos and apps.

This is not only intended to Apple users. Windows, Windows Phone and Android users can also avail this offer but these users will need to enable camera backup before the end of the month so that its camera backup capacity can go from 3GB to 15GB which can be doubled to 30GB.

Aside from the OneDrive option, Apple users can update to iOS 8 by the use of iTunes on Mac or PC to update the device. The iTunes will still require some amount of free space, but not as much as 5GB unlike the wireless method.
