Microsoft Reveals Minimum Hardware Specifications Required For Its Windows 10 Mobile
Unlike Android devices, Microsoft Windows Phone platform pursue a stringent list of hardware specifications. Microsoft has revealed the minimum hardware requirements for all of its different Windows 10 platforms, including Windows 10 Mobile. Few industry experts opine that such rigid specs would ensure a more consistent experience.
Microsoft has recently published the hardware specifications on their website. According to the specs, Microsoft will require Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to create a device with:
- A display resolution of at least 800×480
- There needs to be at least 512MB of RAM and
- 4GB of storage
- And a VGA camera (which uses a visual graphics array of 640 pixels wide and 480 pixels )
- No front-facing camera is required either. There is no requirement for Bluetooth or accelerometers
According to Uber Gizmo, Microsoft has lowered the hardware specifications for Windows 10 Mobile to appeal to as many OEMs as possible. Manufacturers will be able to come up with affordable devices which will in turn help Microsoft to venture into affordable markets. It is surprising to know that Windows 10 Mobile seems to require lower specs than Windows Phone 8.1 which is a strategic move by the company to enter into the low end markets, reports Neowin. Thus, according to the hardware specifications, the lowest-end Windows 10 mobile would feature a touchscreen with 800 X 480 resolution, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, a VGA camera (no front facing camera) without Bluetooth and accelerometer. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 210.
Earlier this month, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the company is moving from a strategy to grow a standalone phone business to a strategy to grow and create a vibrant Windows ecosystem . After the huge quarterly loss Microsoft promises to deliver a new generation of high-end handsets, reports Neowin. Terry Myerson, Head of Windows and Devices also confirmed the unveiling of quite a few Lumia devices later this year, as reported by IT Pro Portal.
